SCMF 140th Anniversary Congress: Metal Construction Gathered at the City of Architecture and Heritage
In June 2026, the French Metal Construction Syndicate (SCMF) is celebrating an exceptional anniversary in Paris: 140 years of commitment to an industrial and construction sector that has profoundly shaped territories, both in France and internationally.
The highlight of a year punctuated by many key events, the SCMF anniversary congress will be held on June 24, 25 and 26, 2026 at the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine, bringing together the entire metal construction ecosystem around the banner “Génération Métal”.

140 years of an industry that combines heritage and innovation

Since 1886, the SCMF has supported and represented metal construction companies by defending expertise based on innovation, technical performance and quality requirements.
This anniversary is not limited to a heritage celebration. It affirms a clear vision: that of a metal construction fully integrated into the contemporary challenges of ecological transition, industrial sovereignty, attractiveness of professions and transformation of territories.
Through “Génération Métal”, the industry highlights both its heritage — iconic works, major innovations, pioneering figures — and its ability to project itself into the future alongside architects, engineers, specifiers and public actors.

The year 2026 is already marked by strong mobilization.

Since the beginning of the year, the SCMF has set the tone for this anniversary year with the launch of its "140 years" communication, the distribution of a dedicated greeting card and the implementation of a multi-channel editorial strategy.
A national press conference officially opened the celebrations in February, followed by publications and special reports in the trade press, notably devoted to steel and the industrial challenges of construction.
The anniversary book "140 years of metal construction", currently being finalized, will extend this dynamic by offering a cross-section of industrial heritage and future prospects.

The 2026 congress: a unifying event for the entire industry

The SCMF annual congress is the central event of this anniversary year. For three days, the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine becomes the meeting place for all players in metal construction: companies, architects, design offices, manufacturers, specifiers and institutions.
The opening evening “Generation Metal”, organized in an immersive setting around the exhibition dedicated to metal construction and Gustave Eiffel, sets the tone for an event focused on dialogue and transmission.
Thursday, June 25th is dedicated to technical and forward-looking discussions, with two major roundtable sessions:

  • A reflection on the reindustrialization of France in the era of decarbonization, robotization and artificial intelligence;
  • A focus on the concrete uses of AI in metal construction, serving the performance, reliability and productivity of companies.
This day also highlights the talents of the sector through the presentation of three special prizes rewarding the finest works in new construction, renovation and decarbonization.

Friday, June 26th is dedicated to the general assemblies of the SCMF and the Maison de la Construction Métallique (MCM). This institutional event concludes the congress, fully integrating this anniversary into a dynamic of governance and collective planning.
It affirms the union's commitment to strengthening the coherence of the sector and supporting its structural transformations in a context of profound change in the construction sector.
An industry that shines beyond the congress: The 140th anniversary also continues through several complementary initiatives: a travelling exhibition in partnership with the Houses of Architecture and the National Council of the Order of Architects, a photo competition dedicated to the metal construction trades, as well as various communication and mediation actions aimed at professionals and the general public.
These initiatives extend the ambition of "Génération Métal": to showcase a sector that is at once heritage-rich, innovative and essential to the transformation of the built environment.

The SCMF's 140th anniversary congress illustrates the vitality of a sector capable of combining heritage and innovation, while affirming its central role in the ongoing ecological and industrial transitions. Beyond the celebration, this anniversary sends a strong signal: that of a sector that is structuring itself, transforming, and resolutely projecting itself into the future.
